Field Demonstration: Shapeshift Skadi from Range Pole to Handle

In this video, GNSS Technical Expert Tyler Gakstatter demonstrates how to “shapeshift” your Skadi Series GNSS receiver from a range pole to the Skadi Smart Handle™. (The same steps will work if you have a Skadi Standard Handle.) Follow along to learn how to remove your receiver from the range pole cradle assembly, swap the battery placement, and mount the receiver to the smart handle.

This is what we’re calling “shapeshifting” — we’re going to move from the range pole setup to the smart handle.

Removing Your Skadi GNSS Receiver from a Range Pole

So, I’m going to remove my mobile device. And then I’m going to take this Skadi off of the range pole the same way I put it on. The Skadi Pole Mounting Cradle Assembly has spring-loaded clips, so just push the receiver to one side and pop it off.

Removing Skadi From Range Pole
The two spring-loaded brackets on either side of the cradle assembly are movable and will shift to accommodate your Skadi receiver. To remove, place your fingers on one side of the receiver and use them to slide the Skadi receiver toward you.

Then, we’re going to mount the smart handle. It’s a two-step process.

First, we need to remove the battery from the Skadi. We just press these two tabs, hold those back, and slide out the battery.

Remove the battery from the Skadi receiver by pushing the two release flaps on the sides of the receiver and pulling the battery out.

The nice feature of the Skadi is that it has an internal battery that will allow it to run for up to 15 minutes without a battery installed.

The Skadi’s built-in, hot-swap battery will retain power for up to 15 minutes while you shapeshift.

So even though I’ve removed this battery, the Skadi is still on and tracking, getting RTK, all of that. This allows me to install the smart handle into the battery compartment …
