Where Are They Now by Eos Positioning Systems: Kinetik creates an accurate system of pipeline records across Texas and New Mexico with high-accuracy GNSS and GIS

Where Are They Now? Kinetik

Organization: Kinetik

Kinetik Headquarters Location in Houston, Texas, USA
Headquartered in Houston, Texas, USA, Kinetik operates over 4,800 miles of pipelines across Texas and New Mexico

Industries:

Petroleum, Pipeline

Type of Company:

Kinetik is a midstream operator providing comprehensive gathering, transportation, compression, processing, and treating services for natural gas, natural gas liquids, crude oil, and produced water.

Original GNSS Use Case:

As Kinetik grew by acquisitions, the company decided it was time to level up their GIS. In 2022, Kinetik acquired two Arrow Gold GNSS receivers to help rectify inaccurate legacy data from third-party operators. They sought to upgrade Kinetik’s data modeling, perform a data migration, and improve data management.

Original Products:

Arrow Gold

Original Achievements:

By introducing high-accuracy GNSS, Kinetik corrected inaccurate legacy data and established GIS as a trusted system of record. Reliable data became accessible to all Kinetik employees, and internal use of the GIS grew 50-fold in just 1½ years. The initiative was led by Kinetik GIS Manager Papillon Romero and Full Circle GIS Principal Consultant and Data Architect Camron Hull.

Original GNSS Goals:

Kinetik is a midstream operator providing comprehensive gathering, transportation, compression, processing, and treating services for natural gas, natural gas liquids, crude oil, and produced water across the south central region of the U.S. As Kinetik grew by acquisitions, they decided to acquire two Arrow Gold® GNSS receivers from Eos Positioning Systems® to rectify inaccurate legacy data. By introducing high-accuracy GNSS, the team corrected the inaccurate legacy records, and as reliable data became accessible company-wide, internal use of the GIS grew 50-fold in just 1½ years.

Where Are They Now?

Following a large acquisition in June 2024, Kinetik added 2,400 miles of pipeline in New Mexico — known internally as the “Delaware North” system — to its existing 2,000 miles in Texas (now known as the “Delaware South” system). This brings the company’s total to over 4,800 miles of pipeline across the Delaware Basin.

This growth prompted Kinetik to acquire a third Arrow Gold and implement additional mobile-mapping training for New Mexico employees. Now, Kinetik is preparing to launch a large-scale, multi-disciplinary reconciliation of its assets throughout New Mexico. As part of this expansion, the team is also evaluating the new Skadi Series GNSS receivers from Eos Positioning Systems and developing updated user guides to continue training staff across Delaware North.

Since adopting Arrow Gold in 2022, we’ve rectified inaccurate, zigzagging pipeline data into accurate, reliable data throughout our Texas systems. Now, we are ready to do the same across our newly acquired 2,400 miles of pipeline in New Mexico.
