In the 1890s, Canada’s Indian Act mandated Indigenous children attend specific government-sponsored schools, which promoted assimilation. Oral history had recorded terrible conditions. Today, Dr. Sarah Beaulieu is spear-heading an effort to map previously unmarked gravesites of these children. Locating and documenting the sacred sites requires extreme accuracy, precision, and noninvasiveness.
